Día de los Muertos

Last November, we gathered at Tribe Porty for the first time to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Our altar formed a tribute and held space for Peter and Serena, loved members of our community and that we lost last year. The essence of Día de los Muertos is to remember and honour loved ones who have passed, celebrating their life in a positive, joyful light rather than in mourning.
Central to the celebration, isan altar- these are built at homes or public spaces and are filled with offerings to welcome the spirits of the dead. We invite you to celebrate their lives and to pay tribute to your own loved ones.
We invite everyone to contribute to the altar with traditional cempasúchitl flowers that we will be making together during lunch. You’re also welcome to bring personal items, photographs, or tokens that remind you of your loved ones: a hobby, a favorite drink, candles, or even their favorite food.

At 5:30PM on Friday 24th October we invite you to take a moment to gather and reflect.
We will meet at reception to share a quiet moment together, invite you to share stories, place our items on the altar, and remember those who are no longer with us.
