SUMMARY:Dead Curious Cafe
DESCRIPTION:The Dead Curious Cafe at Tribe Porty. \nOpen conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. \nThis term we will focus on the question\, If this year mattered more than any other\, what would you stop postponing? \nThere is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nJoin us for a series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we will explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nThis is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5.

Veronique has been running Writers’ HQ retreats for nearly eight years\, because she is a goddamn hero\, and is very familiar to Edinburgh retreat regulars. Veronique is from the Netherlands but for the past twenty-three years has lived and worked in Edinburgh. English is now the language she writes and\, weirdly\, dreams in. Her work has appeared in 404 Ink magazine\, Mycelia\, The London Reader\, The Scotsman and in various anthologies and websites. She won a highly commended writing award from the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award. She is currently working on a novel and after a few false starts\, she’s determined to finish it this year. When she’s not writing you can usually find her in the cinema. \n🏠 Venue This retreat is at Tribe Porty\, where we hold all our other events. The address is 19 Windsor Pl\, Edinburgh\, EH15 2AJ. Tribe Porty has level and step-free access throughout\, and an accessible disabled toilet. The walls and the doors have high colour contrast and there is good lighting throughout. \n🎟️ Space There are only 17 places available for this retreat (and we’re expecting it to sell out). \n💷 Cost A ticket for the Edinburgh Writers’ Retreat Weekender is £225\, or £200 for WHQ members. There are no single day tickets\, but if you want one day of writing\, check out all the one day writing retreats right here. \nYour host for these shenanigans…\nVeronique runs the Writers’ HQ Edinburgh retreats and also hosts online weekend retreats and write-alongs. She writes short stories\, flash fiction and has recently finished her first novel. When she’s not writing you can usually find her in the cinema or on social media.
