SUMMARY:Edinburgh Writers’ Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The best one-day writing retreat in brilliant Edinburgh \nSometimes what you really need is simple: time\, space and a whole load of tea and biscuits to get writing. Well\, it just so happens that’s exactly what happens at a Writers’ HQ writers’ retreat. Because\, look\, we get it. We have the same writerly problem. We make the grandest of plans – Booker Prize winning plans! Pulitzer winning plans! – but life gets in the way. There’s always one more thing to do\, or one more stupid thing to look at on the Internet. Before you know it\, it’s gone midnight\, you’re sitting in your pants eating Dairy Milk\, and you’ve written 25 words. Ugh. That’s why we developed our writing retreats\, in which we turn off the wifi and make you get on with it. We help you set a writing target for the day\, ply you with caffeine\, cake\, and gold stars\, and keep you pepped up and motivated all day long. All you have to do is\, uh… write. Our (in)famous writing retreats were born in Brighton all the way back in 2012 and have since spread across the UK. You’ll find a whole range of writers here — from novelists to short fictioneers\, screenwriters to poets\, academics to journallers. Everyone is welcome. So c’mon down and let us help you. Because the only way to get your writing done is to sit down and write. \nDirections\nThe venue is just off the high street and there is on-street parking. A range of buses also run to Portobello from the centre of Edinburgh (services 26\, 45\, 15 and 49) and from East Lothian. The nearest train station is Brunstane which is a 15 min walk away and has regular services to Waverley station (8 mins to city centre). There is also a new service from Brunstane to the Borders. \nAccessibility\nTribe Porty has level and step-free access throughout\, and an accessible disabled toilet. The walls and the doors have high colour contrast and there is good lighting throughout. We can also cater for dietary requirements. If you have any additional needs\, please let us know when you book or email help@writershq.co.uk and we’ll do everything we can do help. \nAnything else?\nWriters’ HQ retreats are strictly no sharing events! We want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it. There is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. It’s just about the writing. For more writing resources\, check out our awesome range of online writing courses.

SUMMARY:The Story Sessions: Origin Stories
DESCRIPTION:Overview \nJoin us on July 17th for an evening of storytelling; to gather\, to connect\, and be inspired by true stories from our community. \nSoapbox is delighted to welcome you to another evening of The Story Sessions! This month\, our theme is Origin Stories where we are invited to reflect on the early moments\, people\, and places that shaped us. We’ll explore the beginnings that may have seemed small at the time\, but went on to shape everything that followed. \nAbout the Event \nJoin us on July 17th from 6pm for an evening of storytelling; a space to gather\, connect\, and be inspired by true stories from our community. The Story Sessions is all about sharing real experiences: a place where voices are heard and celebrated. \nStorytelling is one of the oldest ways we connect as humans. Stories have the power to make us laugh\, cry\, reflect\, and feel less alone. Through sharing and listening\, we make sense of the world and discover authentic connection with each other. \nWhether you come to share your story or simply to listen\, you’ll find a welcoming community ready to embrace and uplift you. \nTickets \nWe offer two ticket options to help keep The Story Sessions accessible\, while supporting the running of the event: \n£5 – Community Ticket\nFor anyone who needs a lower-cost option right now. Whether you’re a student\, freelancer\, between work\, or just keeping an eye on your budget\, this ticket is here for you. \n£10 – Supporter Ticket\nFor those who are able to pay a bit more and help support the continuation of The Story Sessions. Your contribution helps us keep creating space for stories\, connection\, and community. \nWe trust you to choose the option that works best for you.

SUMMARY:The Dead Curious Cafe at Tribe Porty
DESCRIPTION:A series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we’ll explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nOpen conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. \nThere is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nJoin us for a series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we will explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nThis is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5. \nAbout Loretta. \nLoretta Dunn is a life celebrant and death doula\, with a special interest in living well and dying well. Her journey so far has included a long career in nursing and midwifery\, she is a member of The Institute for the Study of Birth\, Breath and Death\, and an EASE Facilitator (end of life aid skills for everyone) with the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care. She is passionate about bringing death out of the shadows as a means of helping us to live our best life in the present moment. \nCompassion and love are at the heart of her work. \nThe evening will be safe and relaxed environment for sharing and exploring a deeper understanding of spiritual wellbeing for living well to die well. \n“Love has triumphed from the enfoldment of my inner circle—my closest friends and family. Engaging in open conversations about life and death has woven tighter bonds among us. Death\, a shared human experience often wrapped in silence\, has become a pivotal topic of our discussions. SUMMARY:Writers' HQ - Writing Retreat
If you have any additional needs\, please let us know when you book or email he**@**********co.uk and we’ll do everything we can do help.

SUMMARY:Designing a Climate of Care
DESCRIPTION:How are climate change and nature loss affecting your wellbeing? What do they mean for your home\, your work\, or your family? How able do you feel to talk about these themes with people in your life\, and in your local area? \nWhile the climate and nature crisis is impacting mental health and local communities worldwide\, dedicated spaces to face and process these challenges are rare. \nOn September 15\, Tribe Porty will host an evening for Tribers and our extended community to connect over these themes and collectively design how we respond. \nThe session will help us form a stronger connection with the Earth as well as with each other. \nWe will begin with a ‘climate circle’: a confidential\, safe space to share openly about our emotions\, and listen deeply to each other\, in response to the topic: ‘what does thinking about climate change and nature loss bring up for you’? Participants are invited to share their stories and experiences\, or simply to hold space for others to do so. During the circle\, we speak in a sequence and refrain from dialogue and offering each other solutions\, focusing instead on honouring what is present. \nThere will also be opportunity to explore how we build agency\, rooted in (self-)compassion. Following the circle\, we will have space to reflect and discuss what we need as individuals and what we think the community needs on an ongoing basis. \nYour facilitator will be Rob Macquarie\, a researcher and strategist specialising in climate resilience and the ‘just transition’ and a trained climate circle host. See more about Rob below. \nAs a pilot event for the community\, this is a pay-what-you-can event\, with a suggested donation of £7. \nImage credit: Eye on Extinction by Robert Lyn Nelson

SUMMARY:Reshape and OWN your Public Speaking
DESCRIPTION:Shauna Macdonald and Paul Lambie will coach you on how RESHAPE how you approach public speaking. \nFind your voice\, own your performance\, and learn to communicate with more confidence\, presence and freedom. \nOver two days\, 10-5pm at Tribe Porty\, we’ll use practical\, playful and experiential exercises drawn from theatre\, performance and communication to help you find what works for you. \nYou’ll learn tools to: \n– Ground yourself in speaking situations and develop greater presence and power when you talk. \n– Find and own your natural voice\, while exploring its full potential through the 3 Ps: pitch\, pause and pace. \n– Get more comfortable with vulnerability and discover a different way of thinking about performance. \n– Steal useful techniques from the world of theatre to engage\, inspire and connect with an audience. \n– Listen actively\, so you can stay present\, spontaneous and responsive rather than getting stuck in your head. \n– Manage nerves by breaking down what you’re saying\, shifting your focus towards the listener and connecting your voice to your intention. \n– Use the MOTTO formula — a simple\, repeatable structure for preparing and delivering yourself clearly in all sorts of speaking situations. \n– Use your body and physical presence to support and strengthen your message. \n– Recognise and get out of the habits that can sabotage your potential: self-doubt\, overwhelm and confusion. \nThe aim isn’t to turn you into someone else. \nIt’s to help you become more comfortable\, more present and more you when you speak. \nSoup and refreshments are available each day.

DESCRIPTION:This session takes a try\, review\, adjust approach t the work ahead\, less about getting everything right from the start\, more about learning \nProgress Sessions at Tribe Porty \nProgress Sessions consists of three evening sessions (free to Tribe Members – check your Inside Tribe Newsletter for your discount code) focused on practical career support\, wellbeing and peer encouragement — giving you some useful tools\, space to reflect\, and a chance to connect with other Tribers along the way. \nSession Two – Wellbeing by Design: Try\, Review\, Adjust \nLed by Dani Trudeau\, Founding Director at Tribe Porty CIC \nWellbeing isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something you can build\, one small experiment at a time. This session takes a try\, review\, adjust approach to the work ahead\, less about getting everything right from the start\, more about learning what actually works for you through doing. Every attempt teaches you something\, even the ones that don’t go to plan\, and that’s not a detour from resilience; it’s how resilience is actually built. \nWe’ll look at: \nUsing reflection to get clearer on what you actually want\, not what you think you should want\nManaging uncertainty and change\, and learning to try something small rather than waiting to feel ready\nStaying well during big changes\, protecting your wellbeing\, energy and sense of self through the process\nTreating setbacks as information\, not failure\, reviewing what happened and adjusting rather than starting over\nFinding the courage to act in the unknown\, and using that energy to move you forward instead of getting in your own way
