SUMMARY:Machina Cupping at Tribe Porty
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been at Tribe Porty for some time\, you’ll know we love our coffee. We have worked with Machina over the past three years to give you only the best morning brews! We invited Machina into Tribe Porty to host a cupping exclusively for our Tribe Members. \nDue to a limited capacity\, you’ll need to book a free ticket to access this event. \nJoin us on Tuesday\, 2nd December for a festive cupping and taste the coffees in our range. If you’ve never been to one before\, think of it like a wine tasting\, but for coffee. \nWe’ll guide you through the basics of cupping – the method coffee professionals use to explore flavour – while tasting coffees from different origins and roast styles\, including our seasonal release. \nThis is a relaxed\, welcoming session for anyone who wants to taste and learn more\, wherever you are in your coffee journey.

SUMMARY:Edinburgh Writers’ Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The best one-day writing retreat in brilliant Edinburgh\nSometimes what you really need is simple: time\, space and a whole load of tea and biscuits to get writing. \nWell\, it just so happens that’s exactly what happens at a Writers’ HQ writers’ retreat. \nBecause\, look\, we get it. We have the same writerly problem. We make the grandest of plans – Booker Prize winning plans! Pulitzer winning plans! – but life gets in the way. \nThere’s always one more thing to do\, or one more stupid thing to look at on the Internet. Before you know it\, it’s gone midnight\, you’re sitting in your pants eating Dairy Milk\, and you’ve written 25 words. Ugh. \nThat’s why we developed our writing retreats\, in which we turn off the wifi and make you get on with it. \nWe help you set a writing target for the day\, ply you with caffeine\, cake\, and gold stars\, and keep you pepped up and motivated all day long. \nAll you have to do is\, uh… write. \nOur (in)famous writing retreats were born in Brighton all the way back in 2012 and have since spread across the UK. You’ll find a whole range of writers here — from novelists to short fictioneers\, screenwriters to poets\, academics to journallers. Everyone is welcome. \nSo c’mon down and let us help you. Because the only way to get your writing done is to sit down and write. \nDirections\nThe venue is just off the high street and there is on-street parking. \nA range of buses also run to Portobello from the centre of Edinburgh (services 26\, 45\, 15 and 49) and from East Lothian. \nThe nearest train station is Brunstane which is a 15 min walk away and has regular services to Waverley station (8 mins to city centre). There is also a new service from Brunstane to the Borders. \nAccessibility\nTribe Porty has level and step-free access throughout\, and an accessible disabled toilet. \nThe walls and the doors have high colour contrast and there is good lighting throughout. \nWe can also cater for dietary requirements. \nIf you have any additional needs\, please let us know when you book or email he**@**********co.uk and we’ll do everything we can do help. \nAnything else?\nWriters’ HQ retreats are strictly no sharing events! \nWe want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it. \nThere is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. It’s just about the writing. \nFor more writing resources\, check out our awesome range of online writing courses. \nWho’s hosting?\nThe glorious Veronique Kootstra! \nVeronique runs the Edinburgh retreats and also hosts online weekend retreats and other webinars. She writes short stories\, flash fiction and is querying her first novel. \nShe’s currently working on her second novel. When she’s not writing you can usually find her in the cinema or on Twitter.

SUMMARY:The Dead Curious Cafe- November
DESCRIPTION:The Dead Curious Cafe at Tribe Porty \nOpen conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. \nThere is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nJoin us for a series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we will explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nThis is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5. \nAbout Loretta \nLoretta Dunn is a life celebrant and death doula\, with a special interest in living well and dying well. Her journey so far has included a long career in nursing and midwifery\, she is a member of The Institute for the Study of Birth\, Breath and Death\, and an EASE Facilitator (end of life aid skills for everyone) with the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care. She is passionate about bringing death out of the shadows as a means of helping us to live our best life in the present moment. \nCompassion and love are at the heart of her work. \nThe evening will be safe and relaxed environment for sharing and exploring a deeper understanding of spiritual wellbeing for living well to die well. \n“Love has triumphed from the enfoldment of my inner circle\, my closest friends and family. Engaging in open conversations about life and death has woven tighter bonds among us. Death\, a shared human experience often wrapped in silence\, has become a pivotal topic of our discussions. Through this\, I’ve gained invaluable insights about the inevitable but more so about how to live.” –Dani Trudeau on conversations about death

SUMMARY:Day of the Dead
DESCRIPTION:Día de los Muertos\nFriday 24th October\, 530-6pm \nLast November\, we gathered at Tribe Porty for the first time to celebrate Día de los Muertos. Our altar formed a tribute and held space for Peter and Serena\, loved members of our community and that we lost last year. The essence of Día de los Muertos is to remember and honour loved ones who have passed\, celebrating their life in a positive\, joyful light rather than in mourning. \nCentral to the celebration\, isan altar- these are built at homes or public spaces and are filled with offerings to welcome the spirits of the dead.  We invite you to celebrate their lives and to pay tribute to your own loved ones.\nWe invite everyone to contribute to the altar with traditional cempasúchitl flowers that we will be making together during lunch. You’re also welcome to bring personal items\, photographs\, or tokens that remind you of your loved ones: a hobby\, a favorite drink\, candles\, or even their favorite food. \nItems typically include: \n\nPhotographs of the deceased\nCandles\, which symbolize light guiding spirits back to the living world\nIncense (Copal)\, traditionally used to purify and guide spirits\nCempasúchitl (Marigolds)\, the bright orange flowers whose scent is believed to attract spirit\nFood and drink\, including the deceased’s favorite items\, like tequila\, bread\, or tamales\nSugar skulls (Calaveras): Colorful skull-shaped candies that represent the vitality of life and death\nCatrinas: Elegant skeleton figures\, often dressed in elaborate attire\, symbolizing a playful\, accepting approach to death.\n\nAt 5:30PM on Friday 24th October we invite you to take a moment to gather and reflect. \nWe will meet at reception to share a quiet moment together\, invite you to share stories\, place our items on the altar\, and remember those who are no longer with us. \nPlease feel free to join us\, even if it’s just for a brief moment.

SUMMARY:The Dead Curious Cafe
DESCRIPTION:A series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we’ll explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with\, death. This is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. We run these sessions in blocks\, please check Eventbrite for future dates and to book your place. \n  \nAll are welcome. \n  \nThe Dead Curious Cafe are open conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. There is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nLoretta Dunn is a life celebrant and death doula\, with a special interest in living well and dying well. Compassion and love are at the heart of her work. The evening will be safe and relaxed environment for sharing and exploring a deeper understanding of spiritual wellbeing for living well to die well. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5. \n  \n“Love has triumphed from the enfoldment of my inner circle—my closest friends and family.
