DESCRIPTION:From generating ideas to developing a sustainable writing routine while telling your inner critic to get lost. \nAn interactive and practical creative writing workshop on how to generate and explore ideas through writing prompts\, how to develop and sustain a regular writing routine\, which will include a brief discussion on possible barriers\, and practical tips on how to deal with your inner critic. \nWhat you will take away from this workshop: \nAn idea for a creative writing project.\nFeeling ready and excited to write regularly.\nHappily tell your inner critic to be quiet so you can get those words down.\nPermission to write and call yourself a writer (the louder the better!).     \nAbout the speaker: \nVeronique Kootstra is a writer and workshop facilitator\, and she runs the monthly Writers’ HQ Retreat at Tribe Porty. She is from the Netherlands but for the past twenty-three years has lived and worked in Edinburgh. English is now the language she writes and\, weirdly\, dreams in. Her work has appeared in 404 Ink magazine\, Mycelia\, The London Reader\, The Scotsman and in various anthologies and websites. She won a highly commended writing award from the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival and was shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award. She is currently working on a novel and after a few false starts\, she’s determined to finish it this year. When she’s not writing you can usually find her in the cinema.

DESCRIPTION:A series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we’ll explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nOpen conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. \nThere is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nJoin us for a series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we will explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nThis is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5. \nAbout Loretta. \nLoretta Dunn is a life celebrant and death doula\, with a special interest in living well and dying well. It will be interactive\, with questions and answers encouraged throughout. \nAbout Rob Conner \nRob Conner qualified in July 2001 as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). He is a chartered accountant based in Aberlady\, East Lothian\, 15 miles from Scotland’s capital city of Edinburgh. Previous work experience has included Edinburgh International Festival\, Blick Rothenberg CA and the BBC. Since 2020 Rob has been a freelance chartered accountant with a client base comprising private limited companies\, sole traders and charities.
