SUMMARY:Dead Curious Cafe
DESCRIPTION:The Dead Curious Cafe at Tribe Porty. \nOpen conversations around death and dying are often confined to the realms of bad news\, frequently in a medical environment\, when the conversation becomes unavoidable. \nThis term we will focus on the question\, If this year mattered more than any other\, what would you stop postponing? \nThere is merit in normalising the subject of death to open up a wider perspective on the important aspects of living our best life. Many people avoid thinking about death\, which can create fear and discomfort. Open discussions help normalise death\, making it less of a taboo and allowing people to approach it with more acceptance and peace. \nJoin us for a series of interactive talks at the Dead Curious Cafe where we will explore our attitudes towards\, and our relationship with death. \nThis is a safe and nurturing environment\, where participation is encouraged\, and mutual respect is a given. \nYour facilitator is Loretta Dunn\, a Life Celebrant and retired nurse\, with many years of experience working with bereaved families and people at the end of life. \nThis is pay-what-you-can event\, suggested donation is £5.

SUMMARY:Consistency and Calm vs Creativity and Chaos - what if we want it all?
DESCRIPTION:Join Wennie and Carol from Procrastination Station CIC for a talk on what it means to support yourself with ADHD. \n\n\nADHD adults are frequently told they need structure\, routines and systems to cope\, at work and at home. Some of that helps\, but it can also add pressure rather than easing it. \nIn this talk\, we’ll look at what it means to support yourself with ADHD. People come to our courses and coaching feeling that they are the problem\, and that if they could just try harder or be more disciplined\, things would work better. \nOften\, it’s the way our environment is set up that isn’t working for us. It can be damaging to keep forcing ourselves to adapt to structures that don’t suit us or don’t matter to us. Many of us think it’s a personal failing – it isn’t. It’s a need for interest\, stimulation and movement that starts to make sense once you understand your ADHD brain. \nWe’ll explore ways of supporting yourself with ADHD that actually feel supportive.

SUMMARY:Edinburgh Writers’ Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The best one-day writing retreat in brilliant Edinburgh\nSometimes what you really need is simple: time\, space and a whole load of tea and biscuits to get writing. \nWell\, it just so happens that’s exactly what happens at a Writers’ HQ writers’ retreat. \nBecause\, look\, we get it. We have the same writerly problem. We make the grandest of plans – Booker Prize winning plans! Pulitzer winning plans! – but life gets in the way. \nThere’s always one more thing to do\, or one more stupid thing to look at on the Internet. Before you know it\, it’s gone midnight\, you’re sitting in your pants eating Dairy Milk\, and you’ve written 25 words. Ugh. \nThat’s why we developed our writing retreats\, in which we turn off the wifi and make you get on with it. \nWe help you set a writing target for the day\, ply you with caffeine\, cake\, and gold stars\, and keep you pepped up and motivated all day long. \nAll you have to do is\, uh… write. \nOur (in)famous writing retreats were born in Brighton all the way back in 2012 and have since spread across the UK. You’ll find a whole range of writers here — from novelists to short fictioneers\, screenwriters to poets\, academics to journallers. Everyone is welcome. \nSo c’mon down and let us help you. Because the only way to get your writing done is to sit down and write. \nDirections\nThe venue is just off the high street and there is on-street parking. \nA range of buses also run to Portobello from the centre of Edinburgh (services 26\, 45\, 15 and 49) and from East Lothian. \nThe nearest train station is Brunstane which is a 15 min walk away and has regular services to Waverley station (8 mins to city centre). There is also a new service from Brunstane to the Borders. \nAccessibility\nTribe Porty has level and step-free access throughout\, and an accessible disabled toilet. \nThe walls and the doors have high colour contrast and there is good lighting throughout. \nWe can also cater for dietary requirements. \nIf you have any additional needs\, please let us know when you book or email he**@**********co.uk and we’ll do everything we can do help. \nAnything else?\nWriters’ HQ retreats are strictly no sharing events! \nWe want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it. \nThere is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. It’s just about the writing. \nFor more writing resources\, check out our awesome range of online writing courses. \nWho’s hosting?\nThe glorious Veronique Kootstra! \nVeronique runs the Edinburgh retreats and also hosts online weekend retreats and other webinars. She writes short stories\, flash fiction and is querying her first novel. \nShe’s currently working on her second novel. When she’s not writing\, you can usually find her in the cinema or on Twitter.

SUMMARY:Sober Curious\, Finding the Sober Buzz: A talk on exploring a different relationship with alcohol
DESCRIPTION:Sober Curious\, Finding the Sober Buzz: A talk on exploring a different relationship with alcohol\n\n\n\nYou don’t have to hit rock bottom to question your drinking. \nThis talk is for anyone who’s ever wondered whether alcohol is really adding what it promises\, or if life might feel lighter\, calmer\, and more joyful without it at the centre. Kirsty Mulcahy\, founder of SoberBuzz Scotland\, introduces the idea of sober curiosity and explores how experimenting with alcohol-free or alcohol-lighter living can support self-love\, mental wellbeing\, and a deeper connection with yourself and others. \nThrough warmth\, humour\, and real-life stories from the SoberBuzz community\, Kirsty creates a space rooted in compassion rather than judgement. This is not about labels or quitting forever\, it’s about tuning into your body\, listening to what you truly need\, and making choices that feel kind\, empowering\, and supportive. \nA relaxed\, inclusive conversation that welcomes everyone\, whether you drink\, don’t drink\, or are simply curious about doing things differently.

Whether you’re a practiced poet\, just beginning\, or simply feeling called to try\, we invite you to submit your work. \nSubmission deadline is 13th February & shortlisted poets are notified by 27th February at the latest. Click here for more. \nExpect a fun\, relaxed\, and welcoming atmosphere.
