As an ex-marine biologist and a loather of pollution especially plastic pollution I was even getting fed up of my own facebook posts preaching on the matter so I thought I would try and make some kind of impact by helping to start Boomerang bags in Porty!
The great thing is everything is laid out for us and its a huge success in Australia and NZ but we are only the second community in the UK to take it up.
So how do we get this going – well we need around 500 bags before we can launch them into the local shops and really get everyone buzzing and using the Bags and getting the anti-plastic message – after all even if you recycle your bags the plastic often gets sold abroad where it is broken down and dumped in the ocean
Rose Petal Hall is taking the lead on the Sewing Bee and meanwhile some of you have already started making bags which is awesome! …….hold on to them just now there will be further details soon on where to take them.
You will notice in the toolkit the bags have labels – just now we are making without labels so there are no costs but there is a local initiative hopefully going forward where we raise some funds for a screen print and a local school will house and produce labels for us to then sew on.
None of us (myself included) have huge amounts of spare time but by each giving a little we can achieve a lot.
If you know a group of crafters / school / brownies /scouts etc who may wish to get involved please just go for it and spread the word
